Ok. I've read a lot of people have had problems with win xp and they keep saying it crashes and it's crap. Well, usually the people with problems voice their problems and the people who have everything running fine don't really say much.

I'd like to know how many people actually have Windows XP running stable?

I'm one of them. No problems. no crashes.

I've got it running on the following machines:

Toshiba Tecra 8100, PIII 650 mobile, 256 Mb RAM ==> STABLE (fast than W2K by a long shot!)
Athlon 1GHz, 768 Mb RAM ==> STABLE (faster and more stable than W2K by a long shot!)

Both were clean installs. I'd highly recommend doing a clean install if you could because then you're bound to run into virtually no problems. (This goes for any OS, not just WXP.)

I was running XP Pro beta 2 and had no problems. The only problem I had was blackice was not properly support by XP at the time, and it did a number on my system, so I took it off and had no problems what so ever. Have yet to run XP pro final release, but will be running it soon, and I'll say more then :)

Running wonderfully. I think clean installs are key. Here's what I've got...

1.4 GHz AMD Athlon
256 MB DDR Ram
ATI Rage Pro 32 MB
Linksys Network Card
EPOX 8k7a MoBo

I have been running XP for a month or so now, and it runs quite stable, but I do reboot much more than I would like, but that is more due to shoddy hardware than anything. I have a Sony USB CD-RW and it has caused nothing but problems on every OS but Win98.... of course win98 isn't very stable compared to 2K/XP..... so it is kind of moot point other than don't buy a USB burner (Especially not Sony [grin])

My Rig:
Athlon 1333 (Asus A7V133)
512MB RAM, 45GB IBM HD
Leadtek GeForce3
Pioneer 16x Slot DVD, Crappy 4x Sony Burner
Sound Blaster Live (How I miss my Monster MX300)

I have it running on an old PII 300Mhz, 128 RAM 6 Gig HD.
Runs ok although on my Vaio notebook (333 Mhz, 64 RAM and 4 gig HD) it's unbearable and freezes up each time I remove the PC card

Well, I got problems with following applications:
1)PhotoShop 6.0: was suffering that in last week, just crashes every time when I launch the program, even service packs don't work.
2)Adobe Illustrator 9.0: freezes application when I open more than 2 windows.
2)PCAnywhere 10.0: always has problem by loading it with Windows automatically.
3)IE 6.0: sometimes just crshes without any acceptable reason, just halt there....

But the following features really helpt me lot and stable as my cell phone:
EFS, Hibernation, Recovery Colsole, ICS(especially good for small LAN sharing)and group policy as well.

My system: Celeron600, 512MB
Just back to win2000, everything is smoothly running as usual. I go for win2000 server, cuz I need the server services.

Why use PC Anywhere when Remote Desktop is far better?

I've got XP (full upgrade and reformat from 98SE) running incredibly stable on a Compaq Presario notebook PC w/ 192 mb RAM, w/ a 455 AMD. It auto detected and auto-installed my PocketZip Drive, my Linksys ethernet card, and my USB Zip drive. I've been up and running since the it was officially released and have had zero crashes.

I've got it running fine on my system it's a:
Pentium3 500mhtz
384 megs of ram (just upgraded from 128, but that ran fine as well)
Radeon 32 DDR AGP
And an old Soundblaster AWE64 (ISA model)

Still wish my orginal Rio Player software would work, but that's a minor detail

I got it run very stable with my VAIO system: Intel i810 chipset, PIII 650, 128 MB, 30GB, Pioner 16x DVD-ROM, Sony 8x4x32 CDRW, integrated soundcard, 3 USB and 2 Firewire ports.
Until I had a problem last night with the login screen. Look at my posting titled: Very weird win XP problem.

It doesn't run very fast on anything with less than 128 MB ram. I've got some old Compaq's at work that are PII's with 64MB ram.... It takes about 30 seconds to just change the background in XP.

I have it running stable after I changed the RAM, and add a Case Fan.

My Specs are:

Intel PIII 500
Asus P3C2000 i820 chipset
Micron 512 MB SDRAM
Quantum 20G HD
Yamaha 8432 CDRW
Lite-on 50x CDRom
Panasonic 1.44 Floppy
3Com 10/100 Nic
Intel 10/100 Nic
Matrox G400 32MB Single Head
Sound Blaster Live Value
Creative Webcam 3 USB
and couple USB Device connecting to it!

I suppose XP only likes certain better brand name than those generic ones. And i think better air circulation will have your computer runs at better stable performance!

Windows XP Professional (compliments of Neema) runs perfectly fine for me - much faster in MOST applications than Win2k was, although I've been having some odd slowdowns in certain 3D games, but I think that's a problem with accounts - but overall very impressive and stable operating system. I ran Win2k for roughly a year and a half and it only crashed 3 times (I checked the \Dump directory) and although I've only been running Windows XP for about 2 and a half weeks, it hasn't crashed yet :)

I'm running on an Athlon 1.33. I would say the stabaility is as good or better then Windows 2000 Professional.

Even with the beta versions of XP Pro, the only time it would crash was when older software would try and access the hardware directly.

I would really like to try out XP Server--I tried an earlier beta and it needed a lot of work. I am most anxious to see the new Terminal Services stuff working on a Server instead of having to do Remote Desktop.

I have it running on a PII400 with 128MB of RAM

It's sluggish at times but actually does pretty well. It's a great deal more intertaining then Win NT 4.0. I couldn't upgrade to win2K because of old programs that couldn't handle it, but with XP I can run the programs in a NT 4.0 compatability mode. I have it running at work and I've only noticed problems once or twice. I noticed a major one when I installed PcAnywhere 9.0 and it corupted the WinXP install...that kind of sucked! I now use the Remote Desktop..... I wonder if it was planned that way...

I love running XP on amd athlon systems.... it just feels fast and I've never had a crash. I dont even know what xp is supposed to look like when it crashes.... the 'worst' system I've ran xp on was a PIII-600 and it was beta 2... I had no problems at all with it.... Right now, I run xp pro on my laptop with a funny vid card and funny ethernet card that most OS's dont like and its very sweetly (did I just make up a stupid word?)

I have been running Win XP for over 2 months or so.. It 's stable no crash... one exception is that my CD Creator 4.0 is not compatible with Windows XP unless I pay for a new CD Creator 5.0. I am not too happy with this. So now, I can't use my CD Burner under XP. But yes, XP should run smooth.
